a community farming cooperative

an introduction to
GROWN Locally

A General Overview

GROWN Locally is a cooperative of 14 farm producers in the northeast corner of Iowa. Our farms are small, human-scale operations where we raise products which we distribute to institutions and families in our region. We have intentionally kept our geographic space small, our cooperative self-administered and our products of the highest quality. By doing this, we are able to tend our products personally, develop relationships with every one of our buyers and keep ourselves doing what we love - farming.

See below for What's New in 2005!

This category of our website will introduce you to our cooperative and its many sides. Please take a few minutes to explore the links in the Table of Contents to the left and under the picture and then move through the rest of the site using the buttons on the far left.

What's New for 2005?

Lots is still just as it has been and lots has changed since 2004. Our “grower group,” GROWN Locally, has been selling fresh, locally raised products to area institutions since 1998 and we will continue to do so. Many of you have known us as Sunflower Fields CSA growers. Since 2004, we have usedthe GROWN Locally cooperative as an “umbrella” for our institutional sales, Farm Shares, and our new GROWN Locally Food Basket because many of the same growers are part of each business! It just makes good sense for us to coordinate our resources in this way.

For you, a share from Farm Shares is available as it has been since 1997 - you’ll notice that we dropped the letters “CSA” and now use“Farm Shares” in order to make the name more descriptive of the program. But now, you have a choice in receiving your vegetables each week as a share or to order deliveries of foods you choose each week from our new program called the GROWN Locally Food Basket. Click here for a Food Basket/Farm Shares comparison. In either case, we will still be delivering your products to you at your homes or out on our farms, you will continue to get to know the farmers who raise your food, and you will be receiving the best of our fresh picked, hand-tended, locally produced goods.

One other change for 2005 is that we will make all our deliveries on Tuesdays and Fridays to make our routes more fule efficient and to give us more farming time during the week. Click here to see an Ordering and Delivery Schedule.

You can click on these links to download our 2005 brochures and order forms as well as 2005 newsletters as they become available

So, even though we have conjured up a few new wrinkles, you will still get our best each week and we will still get to call you friends!

Click here to get details about Farm Shares, the new custom order GROWN Locally Food Basket, and our ongoing institutional sales program as well as many other programs to enhance your local buying. As always, call us for information, for more brochures or with your questions and comments.
