Optional Shares & ProductsThe growers of GROWN Locally produce a wide assortment of goods in our little corner of Iowa. Farm Shareholders may purchase these products as Shares, described on the order form, or they may purchase them individually through the Add It! program. Food Basket members can pre-order these products or can order them from the web site.FlowersMari Holthaus (with Teddy & Violet) will arrange bouquets of seasonal fresh-cut flowers for you to enjoy in your home. You may also choose a bucket of flowers to arrange yourself. Mari will attempt to have flowers earlier in the year, perhaps even some late spring blooms. Chickens and TurkeysJeremy Peakeand Jodi Gaunt raise broiler chickens and turkeys for GROWN Locally. The birds are fed an antibiotic- and steroid-free grain ration, have access to fresh water, grass, and insects daily, and are butchered with close attention to cleanliness. This year members can choose to receive small chickens (5-6 lbs) or large chickens (8-9lbs). Turkeys will be available later in the season, and watch for the Thanksgiving Box! EggsReceive a half or full dozen of fresh eggs weekly from Mari, Kyle, Teddy & Violet Holthaus. Their eggs are big, brown and tasty, with rich golden yolks. Order early because quantities may be limited! ApplesReceive a variety of top-quality apples from Al and Sandy Peake of Peake Orchards in Waukon. Their apples are great for baking, cooking, and eating out of hand. Baked GoodsBarbara Horns of rural Decorah will once again tempt you with her delicious, satisfying home-baked goods. She offers different kinds of bread and cookies each week, and you can also choose to receive pies made with fresh, seasonal fruit - and pumpkin! This year Barbara is introducing clay baker breads, crusty 2-pound loaves with soft centers, as well as scrumptious coffeecakes. Finally, she is bringing back her specialty knock-your-socks-off brownies and bar cookies. BerriesKarel and Joyce Rawson of Rawson Berries in West Union offer shares of fresh, tasty, healthy strawberries and raspberries from their farm. Their berries are wonderful in jams, pies, and sauces, if you can keep from eating them all before you start cooking! Honey and Bees Wax CandlesSteve and Jeannie Daughton of rural Decorah will offer pure honey as well as sweet, spreadable creamed honey from their hives this year. You may choose a 1#, 2#, or 5# jar of honey, or a 1/2 pint or 1 pint jar of creamed honey. Also brighten your home with Jeannies hand dipped bees wax candles! Hand-made SoapPure, hand-made soap will come to you this year from Michael Nash and Solveig Hanson. Solveig and Michael will supply simple, functional soaps which do the job of getting you clean - nothing more, nothing less - except that they float! from Asparagus to ZucchiniOrder your copy of our food book for your kitchen at home. It is a great resource for not only recipes, but for use and preserving tips as well. This book got rave reviews from our shareholders last year and we are glad to make it available again this season. Goat CheeseThis year Scott and Terri Webb are excited to offer goat cheese from their goats, via the Mt. Sterling Goat Cheese Coop. The Coop makes delicious raw milk cheddar and pasteurized Jack cheeses in a variety of herbed flavors, and an assortment of those cheeses will be available to you. Parture-fed PorkJeremy Peake and Jodi Gaunt will be supplying GROWN Locally wioth their special pork this year for the very first time. You may purchase by the cut, the half or the whole. Watch for an announcement in the first newwsletter in the spring! Grass-fed Angus BeefDavid Burns is pleased to be offereing his wonderful grass-fed Angud beef from Burns Angus Farm by the piece or quarter. This beef is absolutely the finest there is but the cost is still afordable. We will have everything from ground beef to tenderloin on a regular basis in our website store. Consider a quarter that you store or have us do it for you for big savings! |
